United Way of Lea County, Inc. began as United Way of Greater Hobbs in 1959 and eventually morphed to its current name. In those early days, the staff was volunteer and the campaign goal was a five-figure number. Mr. Finn Watson was the first campaign chairman and Mr. Ben Alexander chaired the first board of directors.

Back then, we were located on South Shipp Street in downtown Hobbs near classic landmarks like the Frontier Theater, Pauline’s Style Shop, Western Auto and Vandiver’s Hardware.

Today United Way of Lea County is a close-knit family of 19 partners and initiatives serving people in Hobbs, Lovington, Tatum, Eunice and Jal. With more than 100 programs in place, these agencies serve more than 40,000 people annually and provide targeted outreach services to all area communities.

Our staff has nearly 20 years experience with United Way of Lea County, maintaining a stable and consistent business environment. They include Gayle Conley, accounting coordinator; Kathryn Eades, campaign & event coordinator; Alicia Pryer, 2-1-1 program coordinator; and Kristi Martinkewiz, executive director.

Guided by a dedicated board of directors, United Way of Lea County is actively involved in the ongoing process of community impact.

Through support of critical initiatives like United Way 2-1-1 Information and Referral and the annual Stuff-a-Bus school supplies drive and sponsorship of the annual Day of Caring, United Way of Lea County strives to stay abreast of and promote the changing needs and resources among our citizens.
