 Stuff-A-Bus
Date: August 3 & 4, 2007

This two-day event, in conjunction with Noalmark Broadcasting (KZOR-KIXN-KPZA), makes a huge pitch for school supplies for needy elementary and junior high children in Hobbs, Lovington, Eunice, Jal and Tatum. Held in the Wal-Mart parking lot, the event features a big, yellow school bus, which gets filled with thousands of school supplies! Volunteers empty the bus hourly, take the items to another location where they are sorted by school need, and box everything nice and neat. This is a wonderful opportunity for businesses to conduct an in-house school supply drive at their location. United Way volunteers can pick up boxes during Stuff-a-Bus and be sure the supplies go where they’re needed most. For three years in a row we have received over $20,000 worth of supplies for the children of Lea County.  Representatives from every school district in the county personally pick up the supplies for their town.

  • CHILI FESTIVAL & NITE FLIGHT GOLF TOURNAMENT
Well, you haven’t lived until you’ve savored the best chili that two dozen local competitors can muster up. Every year for the last 15 years, oil field companies, banks, retailers, utility companies and organizations have come together to stir up both chili and a royal ruckus. For about a dollar per bowl, you can savor the flavor of the resulting brew. You’ll find a lot more than chili, too! The available fixins’ include burritos, asado, stuffed jalapeños, ribs and brisket, fajitas, cobbler, cotton candy, pies, brownies, cookies and much more. Another part of this wild weekend is the Nite Flight golf tournament held at Ocotillo Golf Course in Hobbs. Tee-off for the first nine holes is at 3 in the afternoon. The big hamburger feed is at about 6, but the real fun starts after dinner when the sun starts going down. Yep, that’s right – the last nine holes are in the dark! Stay tuned to local media for dates. If your company would like to join in the commotion, call us at 397-2203.
